An Accountant for Poole, Just Along the Coast

Poole grew up around one of the largest natural harbours in the world, and the water still shapes how the town earns its living. Cross-Channel ferries and commercial shipping use the port, boat builders and marine engineers work around the harbour, and the Quay and Old Town fill with visitors through the summer.

Potter & Pollard are based a few miles east in Bournemouth, close enough that meeting in person is easy. We look after year-end accounts, tax returns, payroll and bookkeeping for small and medium-sized businesses, start-ups and individuals, and we are happy to come to you if that suits you better than visiting our office.

Working With Poole’s Mix of Trades

A boatyard, a café in Ashley Cross and an engineering firm on the Nuffield Industrial Estate have very different books. One is managing stock and long build times, another has a seasonal rota and tips to account for, and the third may be weighing up new machinery against its Corporation Tax bill.

That is why we don’t offer a single off-the-shelf package. You are given a dedicated manager who gets to know how your business actually runs, and you choose how much you hand over: everything, or only the parts you would rather not do yourself.

  • Employers With Changing Rotas

Weekly or monthly payslips, PAYE, statutory payments and RTI filing handled by dedicated payroll staff, which helps when your headcount moves with the season.

  • Limited Companies

Statutory accounts prepared and filed with Companies House, with your Corporation Tax return dealt with alongside them.

  • Landlords and Property Owners

Self Assessment returns and Making Tax Digital support for rental income, whether you let one flat in Parkstone or several properties across the town.

FAQs

Accountancy FAQs for Poole

Do I need to travel to Bournemouth to meet you?

Only if you would like to. Our office at Wessex House on St Leonards Road is just outside Bournemouth town centre and has ample free parking, but we are equally happy to visit you at your home or workplace in Poole.

Can you prepare year-end accounts for my Poole limited company?

Yes. We prepare statutory accounts in line with current accounting standards and file them with Companies House for you. A private company normally has nine months from its year end to file, so the earlier we have your records, the more comfortably that deadline is met.

Our staff numbers go up in summer. Can you run our payroll?

Yes. We produce weekly or monthly payslips, calculate PAYE and statutory payments such as sick pay and maternity pay, and submit your Real Time Information returns to HMRC. We usually quote a fixed fee, and can structure it differently if that suits your business better.

I rent out property in Poole. Does Making Tax Digital affect me?

It may. Making Tax Digital for Income Tax applied from April 2026 to landlords and sole traders with qualifying income over £50,000, and the threshold drops to £30,000 from April 2027 and £20,000 from April 2028. We can keep your digital records, prepare the quarterly updates and complete your final declaration.

How do your fees work?

Our fees are fixed and agreed with you in advance, so you know what you will pay before any work starts. We begin with a free initial meeting to understand what you need.
